This montage focuses on Christine Daaé, the young opera singer who the Phantom obsesses over in the classic movie The Phantom of the Opera. The song used is called Total Eclipse of the Heart. Although the song is sung by the cast of the famous TV show Glee, it was originated by Bonnie Tyler in 1983 (written and produced by Jim Steinman). When I first heard this song, I immediately fell in love with it. As usual, the cast of Glee sounded amazing and to me this is their best single since Dont Stop Believing. Every time the song got to 2:14 I always seemed to imagine the scene from The Phantom of the Opera when Christine begins singing Think of Me. In the movie, there is a transition from the dress rehearsal to the actual performance and to me the music seemed just right for that moment in the movie. That is when the idea came for me to make a montage for The Phantom of the Opera. To me, this song means a lot to the movie. I will honestly tell you that I dont actually know what the song is depicting because I never looked it up. I put each clip in this montage to symbolize what I believe is going on in the song that matches the movies story line. This is how I interpreted the song so although it may not be spot on, it works for Phantom. I always imagine the female singing to be one who is falling apart because of something dramatic going on in her life. She has feelings for two men and wants her heart to be like an eclipse.
