The engine/drivetrain has been vastly improved since this video was filmed.* My daily driver 1981 Jeep CJ-5 with a .030 over AMC 360 V8 with a little bit of work done to it. Edelbrock 600cfm Performer carb Edelbrock Performer Intake CompCams 268H AMC camshaft with matched timing set Stock ignition system for the most part Everything else is explained in the video. Filmed on a high 20 F degree day. This Jeep is too much fun and the AMC V8's are very strong motors. This one has about 6000 miles on it since the engine rebuild. The speedometer is accurate give or take 2-3mph, checked with a GPS. The T176 is a great transmission and has never skipped a beat. I've wheeled it pretty hard and put it through some hell on the street and at the strip with several tire size/gear combinations. 3rd gear redlines at about 90mph with the current setup. I've never really gotten much into 4th gear. For you guys who have shown concern regarding the suspension, steering, etc... It has all been refurbished/upgraded to stock/better than stock condition. It drives very well, straight and true down the road and is almost nothing like the stereotypical CJ when it comes to its road manners. Hot Rodded 1981...

Wow! Check out this like new 1975 CJ-5 Jeep! The Jeep has a 4.2 liter inline 6 cylinder engine with a 3-speed manual transmission putting power to the ground. The engine restoration includes new gaskets, ECM box, water pump, alternator, dual batteries, belts, timing chain, radiator, temperature sensor, and oil pressure sensor. The chasis was completely disassembled and powder blasted and painted with POR-15. New springs, shocks, gas tank, float, fuel lines, lockers, steering gear box, wheel bearings, four new wheel drums with new shoes and components, emergency break cables, drive shaft u-joints, 5 new tires, and the original hub caps. New Jeep stamped body kit (tub, fenders, hood, tailgate, and windshield frame). The front grill is original (powder blasted and primered to match the new Jeep stamped body kit). Original bezels around the headlamps and original parking/turn indicators. Custom front/rear bumpers made from 2.2 inch schedule 40 square tubing. Custom tow package with electrical plug. Fender well kit to protect body (rubber). Custom off road/plow kit lights on the front bumper with switch for upper or lower lights. New marker lights, head lights, brake/turn indicator lights, back up lights, lighted rear license plate bracket, original front license plate bracket. Spare tire cover with marker light in spare tire mount. The Jeep steel is treated with herculiner undercoating (Applied under jeep, hood, fenders, tailgate, and inside the tub). This is a walkaround video of my 1977 Jeep CJ5. This Jeep was given to me by my Grandfather who was given 6 months to live with lung cancer. My message: DONT SMOKE. My grandfather has been a smoker for years and this is how it turns out. ITS NOT WORTH IT. Anyways back to my story... I had a 1986 Jeep Cherokee which we drove 2 hours to buy thinking it was an old Wrangler but when we got there it was a cherokee. So we bought it anyways and did some work to it and got it trail and road ready. A few months before my 16th birthday my grandfather gave me this CJ5 so I sold my Cherokee and put the money back into the CJ. I've rebuilt the carb, put new 3 way shoulder seatbelts in, new plugs and plug wires, new tires, shined the wheels, washed the CRAP out of it, primed rust spots (dont mind the holes in the side...that was a rust spot), repainted lots of parts, put new mirrors on, put new shifter knob on my girlfriend got me for my birthday =P, and added a small AMMO can as a toolbox. Now I'm saving for a new top, back seat, and new front seats. I'm trying to save about $1300,00 for all that. The top is in horrible condition. Were also fixing to build a console where i can mount my CB, aswell as store things and will FINALLY HAVE A CUPHOLDER! lol...anyways I figured I'd share all that with you guys. This is another short video of the Jeeps stereo system. Its really basic my dad doesnt like loud music but I do. It only has 2 5.25 inch speakers in the front and 4 6.50 in the back. The boxes in the back are fiberglass and covered to match the seats. Its really a basic system no amp just a JVC MP3 CD player with 220 Watts total power. It sounds nice for what it has.
